Movie Review: Captain America - The Winter Soldier

You all know by now that I have a soft spot for superheroes! My favorites are, you know, The Wolverine (mostly ‘cause of Hugh Jackman), Thor and Iron Man. But the 2014 amazing summer season start with Captain America newest movie, The Winter Soldier.

As he awakes after being frozen for more than 70 years, Captain America (Chris Evans) is yet to adapt and update himself with the new world. To add to his worries, SHEILD is compromised from the inside and he has to run to solve the mystery of who broke into SHEILD’s system. The Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and soldier, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) are all he has. From the first scene, action starts. I mean well played, well planned action. It set the pace to what’s coming! LOVE IT!

I love how superheroes movies are evolving. For me I believe this is their time; the special effects and technology of today helped them come alive. Not only are they alive, they are real and believable; not as animated as they used to be.

Like all of Marvel movies, Captain America is thrilling, exciting and full with funny witty scenes. For me they always know how to make it appealing to everyone and I believe by the records their movies always smash, I am right.

To be honest, reader, I was never a Comic fan. I never got into it for some reason, but like everyone I grew up on Superheroes. For me they are the 20th century’s modern equivalent to folklore and fairy tales and that is why I love them. I noticed something as I watched The Avengers and Captain America today; every superhero that we know have a distinct character. It’s really got me thinking and Captain America’s character is captivating. He is this honest, straightforward person that we all have in us, but somehow believed to be gone. Maybe he does represent a time when people are more open and honest to each other; a simpler times.

Chris Evans did an amazing job in reflecting the spirit of that character. Whoever casted him is a genius. I mean even his feature and his poster scream Captain America (the way I see him at least). Also I was shocked by Johansson. She was so much better than in the Avengers. She’s getting good and comfortable as the Black Widow and I’m so thankful that they fixed her hair color! It was way over the top before!

Other than that I really have nothing to say. Just to mention, for those who didn’t watch part 1, it’s all right. you will be told the story of Captain America within the first hour. They did it in a subtle way that I really like.

I really enjoyed it and THANK GOD!! The summer season started! With a really great movie, nonetheless. I enjoyed it and I know you would too! I’m only disappointed that Divergent is not coming out next week here! The distributers sometimes kill me!

Last but not least, I want to announce that five writers are joining me in my blog! Super excited! Thanks to all of them and to you readers for always coming to see what I’m babbling about today!

Till again!

Movie Review: We’re The Millers

When I took two months off to write my book, I watched some movies and kept a review journal so I’m gonna write about the movies I saw then.

One that I remember because it was so freaking hilarious was We’re The Millers. I heard it was funny when it was released in cinemas, but never thought it would be that funny!

The story begin when drug dealer, David Clarke (Jason Sudeikis) loses his money and need to repay his boss by agreeing to smuggle drugs from Mexico. To avoid being captured by the police, David think of a brilliant plan; a fake family! The cops won’t be as strict with a family as they would be with a lonely man sneaking into Mexico. So he hires a family, Rose O’Reilly (Jennifer Aniston) who is a stripper to be the mom, the lonely kid from downstairs, Kenny Rossmore (Will Poulter) as the son and the runaway girl, Casey Mathis (Emma Roberts) as the daughter.

The movie is so so so funny! I recommend it completely. Every scene just cracked me up! And it’s so sweet too, because it talks about how to find your own family. It’s not a family film though hahaha so don’t watch it with any kids around.

This is such an easy movie to review. Light hearted and make you laugh. Even Jennifer Aniston was really good. After Friends she got a bit lame I actually started to dislike her, but now she’s back! I’m so happy!

Movie Review: The Great Gatsby

Ah, Gatsby, we meet again!
Reader I’ve never been a fan of the book even though with among my writing friends that’s a shocker, but I never liked it. Even though it talks about the empty side of the 20s, the sadness behind all the glam, glitz and jazz! Still it didn’t do it for me. I did mention earlier that I won’t see the movie, but I was tempted only for one thing: The Fashion!

So I saw the newest movie and even though I think I’m probably the last person on the world to see it, the story goes like this:
Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) moves to New York in the summer of 1922 right next to the illusive and mysterious Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio). The billionaire who holds big fabulous parties and invite Nick to his world, because Nick is the cousin of the beautiful Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan) who Gatsby is deeply in love with and try to seduce away from her husband.

At the beginning I was really hooked. The 20s is my favorite era and the fashion is so breath taking! And this movie did it well because it one the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Costume Design. The dresses were timeless! And the Tiffany jewels made the biggest buzz when the movie came out. It also won Best Achievement in Production Design. The setting was magnificent! And the cinematography was a melody.

I loved the soundtrack especially because it was a mix of the crazy Charleston song with current beats. I think the highlight of the whole movie is the first party that Nick went too.

However the more I watched the more I got BORED!! I was checking the time left every 10 minutes. The movie got flat. It was way too long! 2 hours and 15 minutes was too much for that story. Even though the beginning made me think I should read the book and give it another chance, but by the end of the movie I remembered why I hated the book! It made me sad L

To talk about the cast, it was funny because the other day I was wondering what happened to Tobey Maguire. I didn’t see him in any new movies then bam he was right there in the middle of the movie. He was pretty good as well. Leonardo DiCaprio as well played his part well. His reaction when he saw Daisy again was so cute! I love Leo, he always was a brilliant actor. He needs an Oscar, soon!

So this is an ok film, but you need to be in a very good mood or probably sick in bed and have nothing better to do to tolerate the length of the movie.

Movie Review: Frozen

OMG!! Disney did it again!!! The animation is so magical!! You are pulled into the enchanted world from the first scene and first song!!!

The story of the Ice Queen fairy tale has completely transformed in Disney’s Frozen. The film is about the relationship between two sisters, Princess Anna (Kristen Bell) and Queen Elsa (Idina Menzel) who are torn apart by Elsa’s powers. I don’t want to say too much, because finding out the plot is part of the fun!

But I can tell you this, the animation is divine! I mean breathtaking sceneries. It’s so magical!! The ice castle and the snowed down forest is just so beautiful and when you go out and feel the chilly air, makes you feel you still in the story.  This is a must Winter film!!!
It’s also funny and enjoyable! You don’t have to be a kid to love it. Disney is always timeless and now Frozen is added to the classic collections! It pulls you right deep into a world where you believe in true love.

The songs as always are AWESOME!! My favorite is “Let it Go”. I’m still listening to it as I write this review. It melt your heart!

I’m a total Disney fan, so I can’t say anything else!! The film made me happy! And the moment I got out of the theater I thought, I NEED THE DVD!!!

God, it’s so pretty!!! So many things I loved. Just go watch it. It's easier that way hahaha!

Well this wraps my fall/winter must see season! I’m sure though that I’ll find new awesome films for my new list!

Till Again!

Movie Review: Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day

This is one of my favorite Romantic Comedies of all time. It’s set in the 1930s London and it’s about one day. One day in the life of governess Miss Pettigrew (Frances McDormand). After being sacked for the third time, Miss Pettigrew out of desperation falsely take on the job of a social secretory for singer and actress, Delysia LaFosse (Amy Adams). Delysia’s crazy and complicated life takes Miss Pettigrew and us through an exciting journey.

I love this film because it talks about many topics we face everyday, like how to be true and more authentic to who you are and also how the choices we make on daily bases can affect our entire life. In this film Delysia had to choose between Fame, Money or Love. That is such a hard thing and how one day, one crazy day changed her and Miss Pettigrew’s life forever. It also shows us how unexpected friendships can be found in the most unexpected places. No one tolerated Miss Pettigrew before but she became Delysia’s confidant and close friend. It is amazing how beautiful these friendships can be.

The best thing is these topics are dealt with in awesome way! The sound track on its own makes you joyful and dancy. The film has one of my favorite songs ever! If I didn’t care. Breath taken.

The film is super hilarious and fun!  Delysia’s life is truly crazy and it’s is exciting to see how plain old Miss Pettigrew deal with it.  My favorite part is when Delysia took her for a makeover! We all love a good makeover. And the fashion! So pretty. I love the elegance and the simplicity of the 30s fashion. The colors are divine too!

If I want to talk about performances as well, I can honestly tell you that Amy is as brilliant as ever! I don’t think anyone else could portray Delysia’s character in a better way. Delysia is difficult because she’s a pretender. She tries her best to act that she doesn’t care and do what she has to do to get to her dreams. Amy Adam’s rocked that! Her face changes completely according to Delysia’s pretense. Like I said, Brilliant. Miss Pettigrew on the other hand is new to the pretending game so you see her face expose her sometime and Frances as always preformed wonderfully. The person who stole my heart was Lee Pace and his role as Michael. To understand why, go watch the film!

The film is based on a novel by Winifred Watson and I’ve seen it like seven times already and I can tell you, it still make me laugh and smile!

I’ve been away for some time because I’m re-planning my blog, but thought to review this film today. I’ll continue blogging whenever I can, but wait for a new announcement soon ;) follow me in twitter @Kemzmovies for updates!

Till the next one!
