Movie Review: Barfi!

This movie is so much fun! I remember when I first watched it, I was in a bad mood which was changed tremendously by the movie! Actually I don’t know how shall I tell you the story, because even while you watch, you will keep on asking what is going on, and that is what is amazing about this movie!

The story is of Barfi (Ranbir Kapoor) the mute and deaf man who was born as Murphy, and his name got changed to Barfi over the years! Barfi meets Shruti (Ileana) at the railway station, and they fall in love, but Shruti is engaged to another man. Later on, Barfi’s Father fall sick, and needs an urgent operation. Barfi tries to collect money, and an idea comes to him: to kidnap Jhilmil (Priyanka Chopra), the autistic girl of the household his father works for as chauffeur! And there starts another story, when Barfi plans to kidnap Jhilmil, he finds that she is kidnapped already! Barfi finds Jhilmil by accident and goes on with his plan, but it is too late, and the story just starts here!

The movie takes us in and out within the years in three different timings. It is set in the beautiful cities of Darjeeling and Calcutta. Everything is simple yet full of details. I loved how Barfi and Jhilmil played their roles perfectly, that was the fun side of the movie. Barfi is deaf and mute, yet so charming, intelligent and full of tricks. Then comes Shruti the dramatic part, and the police officer, which is the hilarious part of the movie; it would probably remind you of Tom & Jerry and Detective Conan!

You have to pay attention to each and every scene; each detail symbolizes a meaning, and all characters are interconnected with each other. When I watch some movies, it seems that there are some scenes that are okay to miss, but in this movie, there is a new story and an important detail in each and every minute! You will never get bored as you watch! Rather, it is such a mood booster movie with all the interconnected details and enthusiasm, the colorful landscapes of Darjeeling and Calcutta, and all the fun songs, especially that hilarious song of “grgr, brbr, krkr”!

Barfi is a romantic comedy, directed by Anurag Basu, and has won 27 awards.

This is the kind of movie that I would definitely watch over and over again!

Movie Review: 21 Jump Sreet

What can one say about 21 Jump Street? Well what I can say is, first the movie is based on the popular 80’s TV series with the same name staring the young Johnny Depp in the lead role. You can either call the movie an action flick between bonding cops or you can call it a Bromance. I’m going with Bromance. The second thing I’m going to say is that the movie stars Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube and there is a cameo by Johnny Depp.

The movie is about 2 cops going undercover in a high school to find out who’s dealing drugs or slinging dope or whatever you want to call it. Imagine that? Written on paper, it might sound like a bad idea, but as Captain Dickens  (Ice Cube) said it best in the movie “You are here because you look young. You look small. You some Justin Bieber Miley Cyrus lookin …” So there goes the age part, but what about infiltrating the school and finding the dealers? That’s easy! Just make friends with the cool kids since they are the ones that usually buy the drugs. And here is where all fun begins, because they make fun of stereotyping.

I watched a lot of Hollywood movies and they have a formula when it comes to school movies: the quarter back dates the cheerleader captain and if you are good at sports and into fast cars or your dad is rich then you are cool and awesome, but if you like comic books or good at school and you are into studying then you are a geek and a freak.

21 Jump Street, however, had a different twist. You will see the exchange between the characters from their teenage days to their adulthood days, like Jonah was that geek weird kid and Channing was the cool kid, but when they go undercover you will see that they exchanged roles. I think that what differentiate the movie from other movies and it gave it a successful edge.
Ice Cube on the other is the angry captain who shouts at his lieutenant’s, ‘cause why talk normal to someone when you can shout at them. Right? The dialog between him and Jonah and Channing is amazing and its super funny. I mean you can see the chemistry between the three of them and it fits so perfectly.

You need to put something in perspective here; this was series turned into a movie and that formula doesn’t always work. I can think of Sex and the City who turned into a movie and found success, but only the first one. The sequel didn’t work, so it was a big deal when 21 Jump Street smashed the box office.

There is a sequel coming out 22 Jump Street, so we will see what will happen to the franchise.
Sir Bryan Cranston once said, “You don’t have to be friends with the other actors on set but if you are it will make things go a lot easier and better.” I think this statement applies best on 21 Jump street.
There is a lot to be said about this movie like they make fun of how stuff supposed to explode but does not explode. Look out for those scenes.

P.S: there is a lot of foul language in the movie so when you watch it make sure there are no kids around.

Thanks for reading and see you soon!

Movie Review: Hotel Transylvania

Saturday is the day when I review something new out at the movies, but since nothing cool is out I reviewed something I saw last year. To be honest, I just left my job and starting a new one in two weeks, so my brain is totally scattered! That’s why I’ve been so quite in Twitter and Instagram. But I still wanted to keep up with the blog schedule, so when my sister suggested watching Hotel Transylvania, I was like, YES! It’s such a fun, light movie that make you feel good and that’s what I really needed today.

The movie is an animation about a Hotel especially built for monsters by Count Dracula (Adam Sandler), who wanted t create a Human Free zone to protect his daughter, Mavis (Selena Gomez) and all other monsters. His plan worked well for a hundred years, but when it was time for Mavis’s 118th birthday, a young guy, Jonathan (Andy Samberg) stumbled into the hotel and created a whole new mess.

The movie is really really super fun! I mean they had all the major monsters in it and I love how the whole movie carried the monster theme so well with even the littlest details. It’s not a movie you would be bored of. Even thought this is my second time to watch, I enjoyed it again! Such a nice relaxing and entertaining movie that you can watch with friends and family.

Nothing more to say really about it. The animation is awesome and I loved the coloring theme, as it wasn’t depressing; dark, but yet fun! I loved, loooved Andy Samberg. He’s just hilarious. Even though his lines were written well, his style is super funny, so spontaneous and makes you believe in the character. Loved him in Brooklyn Nine-Nine!

Hey! I just discovered Hotel Transylvania 2 is coming out 2015! Awesome!

So, I know I promised Argo, but my brain can’t handle anything too serious today! I guess we all are like that in the weekend :p. But today is the last brain vacation day, so will be going crazy with the reviews and social media again ;)

Till the next one!

Movie Review: We’re The Millers

When I took two months off to write my book, I watched some movies and kept a review journal so I’m gonna write about the movies I saw then.

One that I remember because it was so freaking hilarious was We’re The Millers. I heard it was funny when it was released in cinemas, but never thought it would be that funny!

The story begin when drug dealer, David Clarke (Jason Sudeikis) loses his money and need to repay his boss by agreeing to smuggle drugs from Mexico. To avoid being captured by the police, David think of a brilliant plan; a fake family! The cops won’t be as strict with a family as they would be with a lonely man sneaking into Mexico. So he hires a family, Rose O’Reilly (Jennifer Aniston) who is a stripper to be the mom, the lonely kid from downstairs, Kenny Rossmore (Will Poulter) as the son and the runaway girl, Casey Mathis (Emma Roberts) as the daughter.

The movie is so so so funny! I recommend it completely. Every scene just cracked me up! And it’s so sweet too, because it talks about how to find your own family. It’s not a family film though hahaha so don’t watch it with any kids around.

This is such an easy movie to review. Light hearted and make you laugh. Even Jennifer Aniston was really good. After Friends she got a bit lame I actually started to dislike her, but now she’s back! I’m so happy!

Movie Review: Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day

This is one of my favorite Romantic Comedies of all time. It’s set in the 1930s London and it’s about one day. One day in the life of governess Miss Pettigrew (Frances McDormand). After being sacked for the third time, Miss Pettigrew out of desperation falsely take on the job of a social secretory for singer and actress, Delysia LaFosse (Amy Adams). Delysia’s crazy and complicated life takes Miss Pettigrew and us through an exciting journey.

I love this film because it talks about many topics we face everyday, like how to be true and more authentic to who you are and also how the choices we make on daily bases can affect our entire life. In this film Delysia had to choose between Fame, Money or Love. That is such a hard thing and how one day, one crazy day changed her and Miss Pettigrew’s life forever. It also shows us how unexpected friendships can be found in the most unexpected places. No one tolerated Miss Pettigrew before but she became Delysia’s confidant and close friend. It is amazing how beautiful these friendships can be.

The best thing is these topics are dealt with in awesome way! The sound track on its own makes you joyful and dancy. The film has one of my favorite songs ever! If I didn’t care. Breath taken.

The film is super hilarious and fun!  Delysia’s life is truly crazy and it’s is exciting to see how plain old Miss Pettigrew deal with it.  My favorite part is when Delysia took her for a makeover! We all love a good makeover. And the fashion! So pretty. I love the elegance and the simplicity of the 30s fashion. The colors are divine too!

If I want to talk about performances as well, I can honestly tell you that Amy is as brilliant as ever! I don’t think anyone else could portray Delysia’s character in a better way. Delysia is difficult because she’s a pretender. She tries her best to act that she doesn’t care and do what she has to do to get to her dreams. Amy Adam’s rocked that! Her face changes completely according to Delysia’s pretense. Like I said, Brilliant. Miss Pettigrew on the other hand is new to the pretending game so you see her face expose her sometime and Frances as always preformed wonderfully. The person who stole my heart was Lee Pace and his role as Michael. To understand why, go watch the film!

The film is based on a novel by Winifred Watson and I’ve seen it like seven times already and I can tell you, it still make me laugh and smile!

I’ve been away for some time because I’m re-planning my blog, but thought to review this film today. I’ll continue blogging whenever I can, but wait for a new announcement soon ;) follow me in twitter @Kemzmovies for updates!

Till the next one!

Movie Review: Pillow Talk

Today I fell sick, so I thought what’s better than to watch a fun classic! I just got the DVD for 1959’s Pillow Talk and I found out it was the perfect amusing film!
The story is about Jan Morrow (Doris Day) an interior decorator and Brad Allan (Rock Hudson) a songs writer who both single and share a party line.

I don’t want to say more because it’s better to see it yourself. But I can say this; it’s hilarious fun and an awesome classic! It really made me feel better and I didn’t regret ordering it!

Classic films are always light and have this enchanting feel to it. It just puts you in a great mood!

The storyline is a new favorite of mine as you don’t feel the hour and 45 minutes pass by! You really don’t! This film I will always recommend to anyone who asks me about Classics!

For me as a no classic expert, this was a film I never heard of and found it by accident in Amazon, but as you can tell I really enjoyed it and it’s such a true Romantic Comedy!

Till the next one!
