Movie Review: Catch Me If You Can

This is by far one of my favorite Leonardo DiCaprio movies!! I watched ages ago on MBC 2 and whenever it’s on again I drop everything to sit and watch it. It is so entertaining, smart, heartbreaking and heartwarming in the same time and just one of the best movies ever!!

It’s the TRUE story of 17 years old Frank Abagnale Jr. (DiCaprio) who runs away from home when his parents is separated and lived for years conning people, perfecting the art of checks forgery and running away from the FBI team who is led by Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks).

The movie as I said is brilliant! We see Carl chaise after Frank year after year as he impersonates pilots, doctors and lawyers and how they both develop a bond. And the best thing is that it’s a TRUE story!! How awesome is that!

I highly highly recommend this movie! Leo as always gave a great performance and working side by side TOM HANKS! Such a great movie!!

Please excuse my rushed short review, the movie does deserve the watch, however I’m swapped with homeworks and university projects, so I couldn’t watch it again :(.  I have watched however 4 or 5 times and it was nominated for 2 Oscars!!

Till again!

The most famous assassination attempt in history! A great performance by Tom Cruise.
قصة اشهر محاولات الاغتيال في التاريخ! تمثيل قوي من توم كروز.

A drama about two people stealing one huge diamond in the 60s. A good movie to watch.
فيلم درامي مشوق عن عملية سرقة لألماسة كبيره من قبل شخصين. فيلم ممتع للمشاهدة.

OMG! How boring! I didn’t like this movie what so ever! I don’t know how they made a sequel.
فيلم ملل لاقصى درجه! ماعجبني الفيلم ابدا، وماعرف شلون صوروا وانتجوا جزء ثاني.

An Oscar winning movie that’s worth the watch! A drama directed by the Coin brothers!
فيلم درامي حاز على جائزة الاوسكار من اخراج الاخوين كوين .. يستحق المشاهدة!

Movie Review: The Great Gatsby

Ah, Gatsby, we meet again!
Reader I’ve never been a fan of the book even though with among my writing friends that’s a shocker, but I never liked it. Even though it talks about the empty side of the 20s, the sadness behind all the glam, glitz and jazz! Still it didn’t do it for me. I did mention earlier that I won’t see the movie, but I was tempted only for one thing: The Fashion!

So I saw the newest movie and even though I think I’m probably the last person on the world to see it, the story goes like this:
Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) moves to New York in the summer of 1922 right next to the illusive and mysterious Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio). The billionaire who holds big fabulous parties and invite Nick to his world, because Nick is the cousin of the beautiful Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan) who Gatsby is deeply in love with and try to seduce away from her husband.

At the beginning I was really hooked. The 20s is my favorite era and the fashion is so breath taking! And this movie did it well because it one the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Costume Design. The dresses were timeless! And the Tiffany jewels made the biggest buzz when the movie came out. It also won Best Achievement in Production Design. The setting was magnificent! And the cinematography was a melody.

I loved the soundtrack especially because it was a mix of the crazy Charleston song with current beats. I think the highlight of the whole movie is the first party that Nick went too.

However the more I watched the more I got BORED!! I was checking the time left every 10 minutes. The movie got flat. It was way too long! 2 hours and 15 minutes was too much for that story. Even though the beginning made me think I should read the book and give it another chance, but by the end of the movie I remembered why I hated the book! It made me sad L

To talk about the cast, it was funny because the other day I was wondering what happened to Tobey Maguire. I didn’t see him in any new movies then bam he was right there in the middle of the movie. He was pretty good as well. Leonardo DiCaprio as well played his part well. His reaction when he saw Daisy again was so cute! I love Leo, he always was a brilliant actor. He needs an Oscar, soon!

So this is an ok film, but you need to be in a very good mood or probably sick in bed and have nothing better to do to tolerate the length of the movie.

Movie Review: Django Unchained

As I tweeted the other day, I wanted to review an Oscar winning film. So, since winning an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay is my ultimate dream, I chose ‘Django Unchained’.  I’m not a big fan of the Wild West films, but it’s a Quentin Tarantino film, so I was really excited to see it. I don’t know how to explain my take on Tarantino’s filmmaking style. He is famous of making unconventional stories in the most innovative way while keeping in mind, the artistic and in the same time commercial aspect in his film. See, I told you, I’m bad at explaining his methods, hahaha. Anyway what I mean is; his movies have a combination of elements that appeal to both critics and viewers.
So, the film is about Django (Jamie Foxx), a slave in 1858 who was freed by a German dentist, Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) who is a bounty hunter. Hoping to find his enslaved wife (Kerry Washington) Django join Dr. King and become his deputy. They finally find his wife under the ownership of, a ruthless plantation owner, Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).
It’s a long film, 2 hours and a half with some bloody scenes (well, if you saw Kill Bill, it’s not that much) but it’s a movie NOT TO BE MISSED! It’s very smart and sharp and Tarantino knows exactly the right moment for slow motion scenes to intrigue interest. It’s so thrilling and really moving.
The main theme in the film was slavery (that reminded me that I need to watch ‘12 Years a Slave’). It just shows you how much the African American suffered in those days and no matter how you tried, you can’t imagine the feeling of being owned and humiliated like that. I really enjoyed how the story (written by Tarantino) showed slavery and all that suffering through the eyes of a couple who will do anything for their love. It raised the issue of the ‘forbidden love’.
Since ‘Django Unchained’ won Best Writing, Original Screenplay, I paid attention to the dialogue. The moment you hear the doctor speaks in the film, you know how smart the script is. It gave the doctor’s character its unique voice and identity. Waltz also won Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for playing the doctor. He was super awesome. He was brilliant! I totally approve the win.
Jamie Foxx was amazing in his role as well. He brought the character alive through his eyes. I always said that the success of an actor is shown through his eyes. He made me believe he was dying inside whenever something happened to his wife. I also always, always, always enjoy Leonardo’s acting. He needs an Oscar soon! His characters are always varied and his acting is just ah! Genius!
The movie is again not to be missed. It’s even has some funny scenes, so it has everything! If you’re looking for a good movie, here’s a film for you. But if you can’t take the blood and torturing, you shouldn’t watch it. It’s a bit disturbing.
Oh and it has an awesome soundtrack! I love it!
Tell I manage to see something good soon! (hopefully Prisoners!!)

Movie Review: Inception

This is one of the hardest movies to comprehend, yet the most interesting!!
Dreams are the most intriguing and mysterious subject in this world. For me dreams were always the land where anything can happen. To be able to control dreams will be the most extraordinary thing!! But as you watch this movie and see how people can get lost in their dreams and then lost in limbo, you can understand the need for separating dreams from reality.
The movie is creative beyond believe!! It's so smart, it made me think all day to try and understand the concept. A dream within a dream within a dream. If one line was said in a vaguer manner or a scene was set in a different way, the whole movie won't be BRILLIANT!!
The way we moved from one layer of the dream to the next is just amazing!! So thrilling!! It's exciting to see how every lair is link to the other and GOD!! The set is GENIUS!! How the gravity changed and the fight scene as it happened!! AWESOME!!
I really enjoyed the performance of the cast!! You feel like they've been penetrating dreams all their lives!! Leo <3 my all-time favorite!!!! (See Blood Diamond, Catch Me if You Can and Shutter Islands … he's brilliant!! I caaaan't wait for his new movie!) he has this intense look in his eyes that make u believe his suffering and deep darkness.
The idea of Inception is kinda scary and confusing!! To have the chance to get your mind manipulated like this and not fully aware of it is spooky!! To always have your doubts of what is real and what is a dream.
The movie gives you this dreary feeling, but you can't take your eyes away. You want to know the answer of what is real!!
For me reality and dreams are two complete different worlds, they exists and both are true.
This movie is one of the few I like to see more than once! But if you hate too dramatic, complicated films, this might not be your type ;p, but it's always fun to experience new things :D!
