Movie Review: The Mortal Instrument, City of Bones

The story of the Shadowhunters (Demon Slayers) world! I feel in love with the world when I read the Mortal Instrument prequel trilogy The Infernal Devices (for book review, check my Instagram @KemzBooks).

Ok, this could be a bit complicated, well not that much, but still pay attention. The creator of the world is author Cassandra Clare and she wrote, 7 books in the Mortal Instrument (City of Bones is Book 1) and then wrote a prequel to the series which is set in 1800s, trilogy (meaning 3 books) The Infernal Devices. Each story can be read separately, they’re different characters and different locations, but are the same world and culture! And believe me, if you read one, you’ll want to read the other one!

I read City of Bones and saw the movie, I haven’t finished the series yet, so this is only to review the movie based on the first book. The story begins with Clary (Lily Collins) whose mother had been kidnapped! In her journey to find her, she discovers the world of Shadowhunters and the awesome Institute they live in!

This is one of those movies that make me hate books turned into movies. It wasn’t that great, wrong choice of cast and they messed with too many details in the book. I hate when they do that! I was thinking maybe they added details from other books to clear some stuff, but I didn’t read them, so this is only an assumption.

I really thought that Jamie Campbell Bower killed Jace’s character. Jace is the shadowhunter Clary will meet and who will help her find her mother. In the book his character is clearer. He’s witty and funny in a “oh, nothing hurt me” kinda of defense mechanism. Jamie, the actor, killed the role! KILLED IT!! He sounded like he was reading the script and not embracing Jace’s character. Disappointing!!
The best cast member was Robert Sheehan who played Clary’s human friend, Simon. He nailed it, me think! He was the only one who shined. OMG! And my favorite was Jonathan Rhys Meyers who played the evil Valentine in it as well! Oh, he was GOOD!!! I always love his acting!
My favorite character from both the trilogy and the series is Magnus Bane! I LOVE HIM! There is also a novella series for him, The Bane Chronicles, which I have, but didn’t read yet. In the movie he was, meh, ok. He could be better though. Disappointment again.

So, this movie is a meh movie. If you’re not into the books, don’t watch it!! It’ll ruin the story for ya! Read the books it’s better!

Oh and Cassandra has a new series on the Shadowhunters coming out soon, The Dark Artifact! That should be awesome! Check the Shadowhunters website for details, click here.

Movie Review: Guardians of the Galaxy

This movie is just FUNNY, EXCITING and AMAZING!! I LOVE it! It’s one of those movies that I will watch over and over and over again!!

Based on a comic series (which I haven’t read to be honest) comes the story of the funniest group of Galaxy mischiefs. You have the human, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), the weirdest and funniest bounty hunters, Rocket (voice of Bradley Cooper) and Groot (voice of Vin Diesel), the angry vindictive Drax (Dave Bautista) and the most hated female in the Galaxy, Gamora (Zoe Saldana).  They all are pushed together by the hate of Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) and the need for money hahaha.

I enjoyed the movie so much!! As you expect from a Marvel’s movie, it’s light and fun. Super fun! The coolest thing is that Peter was abducted from Earth when he was 8 living in the 80s and with him he took his cassette and Walkman with songs from the 80s. So the movie had this rocking retro feel that made me into 80s songs!!

Other than that, the world of this story was so alive and done really well! The makeup the wardrobe weren’t over done for me. The world is so colorful, so many things could have gone wrong, but it didn’t!!

Maybe because it had this 80s feel and even the ships and weapons were done in a classical space style, I felt that it was done in that era, but with today’s equipment. It was freaking awesome!!

The cast of this movie was amazing too! The chemistry between the characters was just right! And everyone shined! I love it! I wanna go live there and be with them!!!

I RECOMMEND this for sure! I’m not that big on Space movies, but this one just STOLE MY HEART!!!

If you haven’t watched it! Do so as soon as you can!! And if you have, let us know what ya think in the comment section!

Movie Review: Back to the Future

Like Jurassic Park, I haven’t watched Back to the Future growing up! Even though I heard about it and wanted to watch it, I never got the chance. So, I rented the HD version from iTunes like with Jurassic Park and its so much better all renovated in an HD version!

So the movie is super fun! It’s the story of the young Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) who always assisted the crazy scientist Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd). One day when he went to meet Dr. Emmett, he found him with a car that worked as a TIME MACHIN! And in the first try something goes wrong and Marty is stuck back in time in 1955 where he has to get his parents together or he won’t exist anymore!

The movie is so awesome!! I always enjoy time traveling! It’s very interesting to see the ripple effect you leave when you mess with one little detail of the past! And it’s so fun having a crazy scientist! We haven’t had one of those in a while! Not one that turned into a super hero.

The script is a bit funny and the special effects are of course dated (though it won an Oscar for it back in 1986), but that’s fine. You can still watch the movie and get excited and happy! It really got me into an 80s mood!

This movie is not only a classic, it’s one of the landmark of sci-fi movies! The car alone became an icon! And it also took me back in time where the story and the plot was the focus of the movie, not the special effects. These days everyone want to make bigger, louder movies while people look for the original stories. I think probably that's why people are going to the Hunger Games type of movies, because it's a bit new. I love how simple the story of this movie! I mean just a time traveling machine experience went wrong. It's still fun and entertaining. Like Jurassic Park, it's just a park with Dinosaurs in them, but it's stick in your mind and make you a fan without even realizing it. It's like the same thing with the 90s romance movies and what I said in While You Were Sleeping review.
The special effects these days are mind blowing! If those guys in the 70s and 80s got them, they'll go crazy, so it'll be fun to see something simple and original with a little bit of Special Effects fairy dust ;)

This is a MUST SEE CLASSIC! Highly recommended!

Now, I’m gonna rent part 2 now!! It’s super fun!

My EXCLUSIVE talk with MARK STRONG!!!!

So!!! The first day of Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) yesterday was so so so exciting!!! I meet so many celebs from GCC and the World!!!

The best part and what really made my day, was that I talked to MARK STRONG!!!

If you don't know who Mark Strong is (you're crazy!!) he was Lord Blackwood in the first Sherlock Holmes with Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. He also was Godfrey in my favorite film Robin Hood!!!!

He also stars in Black Gold and he was here for the World Premier in DTFF!! He was so NICE!!!!

I waved at him and told him if he can give me an exclusive quote for my BLOG!!!

He said: "I never been to the middle east before in my life and I feel incredibly honored that the first country I ever visited is Qatar. And it's amazing to be here with a movie that says such beautiful things about the Arabic people and I think it's an important film. Also the aspiration of the film meets the aspiration of Qatar. It's a real honor to be here."

BIG THANKS to Mark Strong!!!!

I was soo happy and I'm still happy because I got this amazing AMAZING opportunity that could not happen to me without Doha Tribeca Film Festival!!!

this is Mark!!! The black line on the side is my shoulder :p hahaha!!
