Movie Review: E.T.

Yup, never saw this one before as well! Still digging into the 80s and finding good movies and this is defiantly a cute and magical classic! It would be even magical if I saw it as a kid, cause it’s perfect for kids and such a family movies, but I still enjoyed it and learned why E.T. became one of the most loved famous aliens. He’s so adorable!

So, if you’re like me and didn’t see it; it’s the story of a kid, Elliott (Henry Thomas) who finds a short and ugly, yet very cute alien that he names  E.T. He takes him in and bond with him till he realizes that E.T. needs to go back home. NASA however wants the alien, so it adds to the plot and makes it a bit adventury in the end.

Like the other 80s movies, I rented the HD version (which I LOVE) and believe me, it’s worth the extra money, because it makes it tolerable and feels ok to watch. And this movie did have some lame special effects (especially when the kids flew in the sky and it looked fake) but it didn’t affect me that much. I just brushed it off. Still you can see the great work of Steven Spielberg. I mean talk about a sci-fi genius in the 80s when they didn’t have much to work with! I mean the movie won 4 Oscars including Best Effects!

You gotta give it to him, the man with the alien obsession brought us the most exciting aliens movies ever. Though he always tend to make them ugly. That’s disappointing. Aliens could be pretty if you allowed them to be, Steven.

Anyways, even though E.T. is such an ugly little fella, he’s still so freaking cute! So cute, I want one!  And you know who else was cute, Elliott sister, Gertie who was played by the cute tiny Drew Barrymore. She was so good and adorable you can’t but smile when she speaks.

This movie is really super cool and every child should watch it! A great movie option for family movie night!  Though the movie is a bit long, 2 hours, but we’re used to long movies these days, so it’s fine!

Movie Review: Guardians of the Galaxy

This movie is just FUNNY, EXCITING and AMAZING!! I LOVE it! It’s one of those movies that I will watch over and over and over again!!

Based on a comic series (which I haven’t read to be honest) comes the story of the funniest group of Galaxy mischiefs. You have the human, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), the weirdest and funniest bounty hunters, Rocket (voice of Bradley Cooper) and Groot (voice of Vin Diesel), the angry vindictive Drax (Dave Bautista) and the most hated female in the Galaxy, Gamora (Zoe Saldana).  They all are pushed together by the hate of Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) and the need for money hahaha.

I enjoyed the movie so much!! As you expect from a Marvel’s movie, it’s light and fun. Super fun! The coolest thing is that Peter was abducted from Earth when he was 8 living in the 80s and with him he took his cassette and Walkman with songs from the 80s. So the movie had this rocking retro feel that made me into 80s songs!!

Other than that, the world of this story was so alive and done really well! The makeup the wardrobe weren’t over done for me. The world is so colorful, so many things could have gone wrong, but it didn’t!!

Maybe because it had this 80s feel and even the ships and weapons were done in a classical space style, I felt that it was done in that era, but with today’s equipment. It was freaking awesome!!

The cast of this movie was amazing too! The chemistry between the characters was just right! And everyone shined! I love it! I wanna go live there and be with them!!!

I RECOMMEND this for sure! I’m not that big on Space movies, but this one just STOLE MY HEART!!!

If you haven’t watched it! Do so as soon as you can!! And if you have, let us know what ya think in the comment section!

Movie Review: Back to the Future

Like Jurassic Park, I haven’t watched Back to the Future growing up! Even though I heard about it and wanted to watch it, I never got the chance. So, I rented the HD version from iTunes like with Jurassic Park and its so much better all renovated in an HD version!

So the movie is super fun! It’s the story of the young Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) who always assisted the crazy scientist Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd). One day when he went to meet Dr. Emmett, he found him with a car that worked as a TIME MACHIN! And in the first try something goes wrong and Marty is stuck back in time in 1955 where he has to get his parents together or he won’t exist anymore!

The movie is so awesome!! I always enjoy time traveling! It’s very interesting to see the ripple effect you leave when you mess with one little detail of the past! And it’s so fun having a crazy scientist! We haven’t had one of those in a while! Not one that turned into a super hero.

The script is a bit funny and the special effects are of course dated (though it won an Oscar for it back in 1986), but that’s fine. You can still watch the movie and get excited and happy! It really got me into an 80s mood!

This movie is not only a classic, it’s one of the landmark of sci-fi movies! The car alone became an icon! And it also took me back in time where the story and the plot was the focus of the movie, not the special effects. These days everyone want to make bigger, louder movies while people look for the original stories. I think probably that's why people are going to the Hunger Games type of movies, because it's a bit new. I love how simple the story of this movie! I mean just a time traveling machine experience went wrong. It's still fun and entertaining. Like Jurassic Park, it's just a park with Dinosaurs in them, but it's stick in your mind and make you a fan without even realizing it. It's like the same thing with the 90s romance movies and what I said in While You Were Sleeping review.
The special effects these days are mind blowing! If those guys in the 70s and 80s got them, they'll go crazy, so it'll be fun to see something simple and original with a little bit of Special Effects fairy dust ;)

This is a MUST SEE CLASSIC! Highly recommended!

Now, I’m gonna rent part 2 now!! It’s super fun!

Movie Review: Ghostbusters

“I ain't afraid of no ghost!”

I promised that the next movie I watch is going to be my review material for Kemz Movies, so here we go.

Ghostbusters is an amazing iconic oldie, directed by Ivan Reitman, starring the Academy and Emmy awards winner Bill Murray (who’s awesome), Dan Aykroyd who was nominated for an Academy award in 1990 for his role in Driving Miss Daisy, Harold Ramis who passed away earlier this year (may his soul rest in peace), and Ernie Hudson.

Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Egon Spengler are parapsychologists, who are doing research on the supernaturals in Columbia University, and of course they lose their job! They move on next to start their own supernatural investigation service called the Ghostbusters. They use the most advanced, up to date high-tech equipment to measure ghost existence.

I had vague scattered memories of the movie, so I had to re-watch to know if it’s really good or is it just because I watched it when I was a kid. I loved the movie. It’s funny, interesting, there was never a dull moment, the cast is amazing. Acting style is a bit outdated, but hey, I love 80s movies and shows, so to me that was perfect. The special effects and “CGI” was very laughable because, come on, you can see the stop motion an green screen halo around those monsters and ghosts, but it didn’t bother me at all.

Ghostbusters fans are very familiar with the famous theme song “Ghostbusters” it’s a fun song that was written and performed by Ray Parker, Jr., where were got the two catchphrases "Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!" and "I ain't afraid of no ghost."

Overall Ghostbusters is a fun light watch if you like oldies, maybe it will bother you if you are too prĂ©cises about the visuals, just because of the outdates special effect. I would definitely watch it again, and I’m super excited for Ghostbusters 3, which was announced to be shot in early 2015.

Movie Review: Romancing the Stone

So every now and then I go on a DVD spree in Amazon and every time I have a theme, like classics or anime. This time I felt I need me some 80s romance! So I went and bought some of my old favorites.

Romancing the Stone is a film I saw when I was a teen and it stuck in my head ever since. It’s the story of a romance novelist, Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner) who received a treasure map from her dead brother in law. Confused by it, Joan get a phone call from her sister telling her she’s been kidnapped and needs to travel all the way to Colombia to give the kidnappers the map and save her life. So, Joan travels and meets Jack (Michael Douglas) the American smuggle who’s been dreaming to buy himself a boat.

I love this film because it’s such a cheezy story done in an awesome way! Didn’t you ever dream of traveling and having an unexpected adventure?? It is such a short and fun film to watch. An 80s classic. Most of you had probably seen it, but it’s one of those movies you don’t mind watching again once in a while.

It’s personally a special film for me, because it was one of the films that made me want to be a novelist! I love it when she cries in the beginning because she finished writing her book. It’s something I always do.

But enough about me, this is fun for everyone, cus it has romance AND action! There’s car chase, guns and crocodiles. It’s a great package!

There’s a sequel to it to, ‘The Jewel of the Nile’, but I haven’t seen it yet.

Have a nice Saturday everyone!
