Movie Review: Into the Woods

The Disney musical is finally out and its just super awesome! I was laughing the entire time and just enjoying the movie! If you’re not into musicals or fairytales, this ain’t for you, but if you were like meee, loving all the magic in the world, then you will LOVE it!

The movie is about five fairytales coming together as the main character of each story travels through the woods. You have, Jack (Daniel Huttlestone) going to sell his cow, Cinderella (Anna Kendrick) who is sneaking into the ball, Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford) going to visit her grandma and the Baker (James Corden) and his wife (Emily Blunt) who were sent to the woods to collect four items for the village Witch (Meryl Streep). There’s also Rapunzel (Mackenzie Mauzy) who was a bit useless in the movie hehehe.

From the first scene, the cinematography and the beautiful use of colors in the costumes and the setting caught my eyes! It was very pretty and just puts me in a magical mood. The story as well is mixed in a great way. All the characters are blended in one big coherent plot. And I also was happy to see that the versions of the fairy tales in this movie kept to the original tales, the ones with some bloody details.

If there was one thing that made it work in this movie, it was the cast!! Such a brilliant ensemble!! Johnny Depp was perfect, PERFECT as the Wolf! Even though his part wasn’t that long, but he nailed it! Chris Pine played Cinderella’s Prince and he was super hilarious! He really over played the prince charming and was even comical about it. I loved Emily Blunt. She was supper funny and her role was so genuine. She’s already nominated for a Golden Globe. Meryl Streep is nominated as well and in this movie she tops them all!! I LOVE HER!! She’s a genius actress, no one is like her! In this movie she is AMAZING and her voice and the way she sings, it’s awesome!

The movie as well is full with all the good messages that each fairytale had, like be careful what you wish for and other. They are more than just a story, they really do have nice messages to deliver.

So, if you enjoy fairytales and musicals, this is the movie for you! For more info and to watch the trailer, please click here.

Halloween Movie Review: Edward Scissorhands

So, Halloween is this Friday and I thought why not review movies specially for it! I don’t watch scary movie, but there are still Halloween themed movies I can watch! I mean I love all dark, light and mythical creatures! So this is my time hahaha and I started with the dark comedy drama Edward Scissorhands.

Directed by my favorite genius, Tim Burton and brilliant actor, Johnny Depp, the movie is the story of Edward, a machine turned into a man who is left all alone and incomplete with scissor for hands when his inventor died before he could finish the job. He is left all alone living in a dark mansion until one day Peg (Dianne Wiest), a makeup saleswoman enter the mansion, see Edward, feel sorry for him and invite him to come live with her family. The neighborhood housewives are all intrigued by this new comer and Edward shows great talent and he becomes famous, but will his 15 minutes of fame last?

This is the first time I watch this movie and I’m happy I finally did! From the start with the main title song the movie took me by surprise and threw me right into the Halloween mood! It put me in a 90s spirit and its so charming. It made me feel sad yet hopeful. Loved it! You can listen to it here.

The movie did deliver on the comedy! The bored housewives are hilarious. I loved their scenes and the way they looked and talked and even how their houses are lined and organized. Tim really brought their stereotype to life.

The movie is from the 90s obviously and it’s clear that it didn’t have big budget for special effect, but that’s actually good! Because the weak and funny special effects, mainly on the dark mansion, added to the charm of the movie. It was like a fairytale.

The scene when Kim (Winona Ryder) who Edward love, dancing under the snow is so magical! It’s really is a sweet story that will make your heart melt for sure! And its not as dark as you’d think it is. The only “dark” aspect is how the mansion is rusty and burned out and the fact that Edward had scissor hands. The movie is worth the watch! It was nominated to an Oscar and a Golden Globe, so you know I’m right ;).

Ah, such an enchanting story! It’s the perfect movie to put me in the right mood! For more info on it and the trailer, please click here.

Movie Review: Maleficent

So, for me, this was either going to be a totally lame movie or an amazing new classic! The first 10 minutes of the movie set the tone and guess what Disney fans, IT’S TOTALLY EXTRAORDINARY AMAZING!!!

From the beginning with the beautiful scenery and moving soundtrack, it just takes your breath away!! I don’t think I should mention the plot of the story; it’s the Sleeping Beauty fairytale with a twist! This story this time is told through the eyes of the fairy we all grew to fear, Maleficent (Angelina Jolie).

This twist gave a life to the somehow lame sleeping beauty story. I mean in the previous Disney animation Aurora (Elle Fanning in this movie) does nothing but grow up and get pricked by the spinning wheel and then she sleeps. This time we hear the heartbreaking story of Maleficent and how she became the evil fairy that she is and Angelina Jolie played her part beautifully!!

The thing we don’t know is that Maleficent was good, but she was turned evil because of betrayal. That scene when she switched from good to evil gave me the chills! I mean talk about raw emotions! It made me cry to be honest! Angelia did more than delivered, she was Maleficent and I applaud her! You can see her shift in her eyes, her tone and even the way she walks! Chilling I tell ya!

I’m so happy we saw this side of Maleficent, it explains a lot! I remember I knew her story from an episode of Once Upon a Time, but not like this! At all! This was different and totally awesome!

The production side of it didn't fail as well! The magical creatures, the forest and everything was mesmerizing! It's a fairy place indeed! No wonder this world came from two time Oscar winner Robert Stromberg. This is actually his first movie to direct, as he dealt with visual effects before only. No wonder, the movie is dazzling.

Fun fact if you haven’t known yet, the 5 years old Aurora is actually played by Angelina’s daughter Vivienne Jolie-Pitt. She was just so adorable!

I wanna say so much more, but I don’t want to ruin it for you! And to all those who are waiting for my verdict I say, RECOMMENDED!

Oh, one thing that I loved from the previous animation is the song, Once Upon A Dream. It’s just so special to me, and guess what?! An all new haunted version of the song by Lana Del Rey, hear it here.

This made me happy! For more info, click here.

Till again ;)

Movie Review: Jack The Giant Slayer

So, this is another movie I watched when I was sick. I had a bad flue few months ago and I watched so many movies.
The story of Jack and his magic beans that we all grew up hearing. This movie came with the wave of a new take of fairytales, like the movies, Red Riding Hood and Mirror Mirror. However it didn’t have the same fun modern twist that the rest of the movies had.
The special effects are a bit weak, I personally didn’t like the animated story in the beginning of the movie, but the story picks up by the middle of the movie. The adventure is entertaining.
I did enjoy the acting and the relationship between the characters. That helped make me like them and cheer for them when the fight with the Giants happened.
It’s not the best film in the world, but it’s still a fun movie to watch, something for the whole family to enjoy.

Till the next one,
