Movie Review: Divergent

Finally! I saw it!! I got it from iTunes. In your face Doha Cinemas!! I can’t believe they didn’t release it in Qatar. And it’s good! So much better than I thought! For a movie based on a book, it’s awesome!

So the movie that is based on the best selling trilogy with the same title. The story of post-apocalypse society that built itself a virtue based system. The system has 5 factions, which value five different virtues, Bravery, Honesty, Intelligence, Kindness and Selflessness. Tress (Shailene Woodley) who comes from the Selflessness faction, Abnegation, learns that she is a Divergent, people who belong to more than one faction. However she choose to move into Dauntless, those who value bravery. Through her initiation period, she meets Four (Theo James) and is sucked into the middle of a political mutiny.

For me as someone who read the books, it’s very exciting to see the world come to life! Every detail is alive and just as you imagined it. Even though in the book there’s a lot of these unspoken little details that goes into Tress’s head, but this doesn’t stop the movie from having really good scenes. I liked it.

The action scenes were just right and it's thrilling to see the initiation process then the last half hour is intense. The choosing ceremony was fun too!

Shailene Woodley is shockingly good! I was very impressed. She really played her role well. If she kept choosing smart choice of characters to play, she’ll get far. Also It was fun having Kate Winslet as the icy ruthless Jeanine. Theo was ok for me. He played a good Four, but he could be better I guess.

Book one is my favorite in the trilogy so it was nice to watch the story come to life like that. The second book movie, Insurgent will be out March 2015!

Movie Review: Jurassic Park

So, I’ve been reading about the new Star Wars Episode directed by J.J. Abrams, I realized that I haven’t watched Star Wars yet! I mean, me! The fantasy crazy diva! So, in honor of the new episode, that will be out Dec. 2015, I’m going to write reviews about old classics that I should have watched growing up, but didn’t.

I will start with a movie, I always wanted to watch, but somehow I didn’t have the chance, the Oscar Winning movie, Jurassic Park. I finally rented the HD version from iTunes (this is my new obsession, btw). I was so excited and happy!

The story of the Dinosaur park that has actual alive and cloned Dinosaurs, Jurassic Park. Before the park is opened and in a private preview tour, things go crazy and the Dinosaurs run wild and free attacking everyone.

It’s so awesome!! The Dinosaurs are so amazingly done! It really feels so real! The whole movie feels like it was made five years ago, not 20! The pace is good. It doesn’t make you feel bored and in the end it’s so thrilling with the Dinosaurs trying to eat everyone. I really really enjoyed it and can’t believe I just saw this! I can’t wait to rent the rest of the trilogy.

This is something to be expected from a Steven Spielberg movie! His ideas and style of direction is just timeless!

A good thing too! A new part is gonna be out in 2015, Jurassic World. For more info on it, click here.

Till again!

Movie Review: Transformers Age of Extinction

Okay 1st let me say this and get it out of the way, I’m a very huge fan of transformers I watched the cartoon when I was a kid. I watched all the 4 movies like a million times. Optimus Prime is my childhood hero I get goose pumps every time he is on screen. I even own the action figure. Now with that out of the way I can start my review or Transformers: Age of Extinction.

The movie takes place 5 years after the events of Chicago (Transformers: dark of the moon).  I really liked that they brought all new cast. It gave the movie a fresh start without ruining the story so it’s kind of a reboot in the same time it’s not since it follows the story of its predecessor’s. The Autobots are now a target of nationwide manhunt but they don’t just get killed and dumped, no, their parts are taken into a factory for Transformium so a company can manufacture them. The humans are trying to make their own transformers (introducing Galvatron and stinger). But the humans are not hunting alone. Lockdown a bounty hunter transformer hunting down Optimus prime to bring him back to his creators is helping the humans hunting the Autobots till he finds Optimus.

I am not going to say any more, even though I wish but I don’t want to spoil the movie for you. I much rather let you see for yourself. Plus I can go on and on about the movie and I don’t want this to be a rant, but I will say this, I really liked how the movie is about the new human characters in it. Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) who was the lead in all the predecessors doesn’t even get mentioned in the movie even Optimus Prime who vowed to defend the boy knows better than to bring him up. I think that’s because of what LaBeouf was doing lately getting into fights with homeless men and wearing a brown paper bag on his head. If I were in Michael Bay’s shoes I would have done the same.

Since Michael Bay is the Director of this movie. You can expect to see tons of explosion, tons of cars being thrown around and girls in shorts. But I really don’t mind since this formula works. The movie is nearly a billion on the box office and it’s the 1st movie ever to cross the 300 million mark in China.
I watched it twice already since it got released and I downloaded the movie score. But I am a transformer’s manic so I don’t expect others to do the same.

Go watch it and enjoy every second of it and I am sure you will love it. Before I leave you here a quote from Optimus to show you how wise this guy is
“The greatest weakness of most humans is their hesitancy to tell others how much they love them while they are still alive”

Take care and see you soon.

Movie Review: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

So, we’re back! I miss writing about movies!
Today I went and saw the newest movie from the Planet of the Apes series in the new movie theater Novo at the Pearl (I’m in Qatar, if you’re wondering). The theater is really nice! I liked it, though it was a bit cold.  The movie as well was really good! I enjoyed it.

The story continues with the Ape Caesar from the previous movie, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, who managed to create a home for him and his fellow apes. As they are peacefully living, humans pass by them. After a plague had spread, humans were almost instinct, but the surviving groups lived in colonies. And one was right next to Caesar’s home. The two species clash and a war is started.

Even though the movie was a bit too long and made me feel tiny bit bored in the end, it is worth the watch! I loved how it didn’t focus on action scenes, but looked deep into the human/ape relations. How no matter how many try and keep the peace, one or two idiots full with hate, ignorance and fear come and destroy everything the peacemakers built in one stupid, stupid mood. I really admired that storyline as it reflects the reality of life and war.

The movie setting was beautiful. I loved the Apes’ home and the humans’ colony. I always enjoy the beauty of the scenery and the colors of everyone’s cloths and the background behind them. When you watch, pay attention to the gadgets here and there that shows how the humans are surviving. I love those details.

I’m not a huge fan of the series, I only saw the Rise movie and this one, but for a non-fan, I enjoyed it immensely.

Movie Review: Edge of Tomorrow

The newest Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt’s movie is just amazing! I loved watching it in Cinema and it’s a movie that I will watch again and will remember for a while!

It’s the normal story of aliens (the ugly kind, not cute Thor kind of aliens) invading Earth and how the National Army is planning for one big hit that they think will destroy the aliens. Officer Cage (Cruise), a previous ad guy, is the army’s PR representative, but when he has a disagreement with the General, he finds himself in the front getting ready to fight. In the day of the battle everything goes wrong, but somehow Cage manages to kill one of the aliens. Killing this one unique alien gave him the power to reset time. Whenever he dies, he starts the day all over again.

I was like, OMG, that is like a dying in a video game, getting a Game Over then just rebooting and starting all over again! It was super wicked! I really loved it. There’s a lot of movies that had time traveling and days repeating, but this one is gripping thrilling and “OMG when this is gonna end, but I don’t want it to end” kind of movie.

Tom Cruise was beyond brilliant in the movie. He nailed the development of the character from just wanting to promote the army and into having to face the strongest and most horrible enemy humans have ever faced. And I can’t express how impressed I was with Emily Blunt! She really can play the action movies! The chemistry between her and Tom was so good! They were badass warriors yet so cute together. And funny!! There were some really funny lines coming from Tom!

The movie doesn’t only have romance, but it’s full with sick combat scenes! It was just awesome! The special features weren’t mind blowing, like it’s what we are used too, but it worked! The suits that the soldiers wore for me, were yes, good, but I felt they were a bit heavy and it kind of made me feel nervous for the soldiers hahaha.

However, the whole movie experience was just aaaah, AMAZING! I mean … Live. Die. Repeat … what more can one say?!

The movie is also based on the novel, “All You Need Is Kill” by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. All the best movies are based on books <3
