Movie Review: Jane Eyre (2011)

Jane Eyre, the sensible orphan girl who lived in the fine household of her uncle, found herself in a dull boarding school after her aunt has casted her off. Within the harshness and gloominess of the school, Jane Eyre (Mia Wasikowska) has moved from childhood into adulthood, learning to take refuge within herself and to live in solitude.

Working as a governess in Thornfield Hall, she meets the arrogant mysterious master Edward Rochester (Michael Fassbender) who takes interest in her. Noticing Mr. Rochester’s understating of her soul, aware of her feelings, Jane Eyre, tries to open to life and dream of hope. When the lovers are eventually to unite, Mr. Rochester’s mysterious secret is revealed.

Devastated, Jane Eyre runs away, lost, empty at hand and soul. After time passed, Jane listens to her heart and goes back to her lover, where yet finds another surprise.

 I happened to see the movie before reading the book, yet I loved it, I felt it. It has touched me and left a trace in my soul. I haven’t watched the previous version but I think Mia Wasikowska has played the role perfectly, all the desperate motionless expressions, the timid attitude, and Michael Fassbender, he is literally charming! It shows in his action that he loves Jane yet involuntary ignores her, his eyes speak out, his voice tone, the pleading in his eyes. A great amount of emotions were exchanged between the lovers, through their conversation, the momentum actions, and all the restless act of pride and prejudices. Yet my heart was solely broken at the end; it arises a question: when to take the correct decision, what is the correct decision, what to sacrifice, when is it too late?

The gothic gloomy forests, Jane’s dull Victorian dresses, her direct gazes, scarce expressions, all reflects how rigid her life is, and the amazing soundtrack by Dario Marianelli (Anna Karenina, Pride & Prejudice) all carries us into Jane’s soul. Personally, the soundtrack has touched me so much where it reflected the solitude in Jane Eyre’s soul. The slowness of the notes reflecting the captive Jane Eyre as she walks through her unknown destiny, the truthful feelings, the house, the furniture, Thornfield Hall, it all charmed me, I literally lived Jane Eyre’s story within the movie’s two hours!  I couldn’t stop crying.

The richness of literature in their conversation, the charm of the music, the passion, sense, and more is all in the remake of Jane Eyre based on the novel by Charlotte Brontë, directed by Cary Fukunaga. If you are fond of classic, literature, and wealth of feelings, then this is just for you. A captivate movie which touches any soul acquainted with love. If you liked Pride & Prejudice and Mr. Darcy, then you will definitely love Jane Eyre.

Movie Review: The Hobbit

So I watched the first movie months ago and today I watched second movie of the Hobbit, so here’s m review on both film:

  

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Based on J.R.R. Tolkien novel, the Hobbit is the story of how Biblo Baggins (Martin Freeman) found the famous ring of the beloved story of The Lord of the Rings (I promise one day I will review LOTR, because to my surprise there are people who didn’t see the trilogy yet!)  So Biblo Baggins, a normal hobbit, joins a gang of Dwarfs who are hopping to slay a dragon and reclaim their mountain home.

For a huge Lord of the Ring fan (The movies not the book) I was excited to see this movie, but once it was out a lot of people said some negative things about it, like it was too long and not as they expected it to be. I should not listen to negative people! This movie was AMAZING!! Sure it’s not LOTR, but it’s not supposed to be that. It has it’s own spirit and own story. Us nerds sometimes need to relax and not nip tuck on each little detail hahaha.

To answer those comments, yes the movie is a bit long, but you can’t feel the time passing by! It’s one of those movies that makes you yell “I want MORE!” when credits starts to roll.  It is so much more exciting that I expecting with so many FUNNY scenes! LOTR was a bit on the morbid series side (which I LOVED), while The Hobbit is up beat and thrilling.

I’m happy that the book is split to three movies, it’s a geeky wish to be honest, because I really missed that world after LOTR ended, so I want it to last as much as possible and to know more about the people who lived in it. I even missed Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and the Elves of course! I want to go live with them!

The set is as beautiful as always! I mean the Shire, The Mountain and dear God, Rivendell!! I love that Elves city! It’s like a tiny heaven!! To my fellow LOTR nerds, you know what I’m talking about!

This movie is so much fun, the Dwarfs were amazing. I loved how the focus is on them this time around. I mean mankind can be a bit boring after the billionth million about them haha!

This movie is for sure is a CLASSIC!!!

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

This part is so much BETTER!!! I LOVE IT!!!!

It’s so exciting and thrilling!! The story just gets better and better!!! You should’ve seen me reader, squealing and yelling at the screen as I watched! It’s just beyond amazing!!!

Just beware, I just finished seeing it, so I’m super excited and a crazy review is coming up!

So, the story of Biblo Baggins and the Dwarfs continues and this time they reach the Lonely Mountain and face the dragon while Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) is investigating the rising of Sauron. In their journey as well they visit the Woodland elves!!! The land of Legolas (Orlando Bloom)!!!

The movie is full with action and excitement. Now that the Woodland Elves joined the elves the battle scenes are even better. The gracefulness and elegant of the elves is mixed with the sharpness of martial arts. It’s so freaking mind blowing!!!

Tolkien brilliance is reflected in the movie as we are focused on the main plot, which is the Dwarfs and their quest while giving us the highlight of the subplot, the one that set the beginning of the Lord of the Ring adventure. 

The story is so rich with everything! Action, emotion, love, fear, excitement, pride, greed, evil! The whole journey is thrilling. I haven’t read the book, reader, but I enjoyed every scene of this movie. I do think it’s better than the first, maybe because we are now in the middle of the story. I can’t wait till part 3 is released December 2014!

I love how the movie kept its funny element. I mean the scene with the Dragon is just hilarious. Martin Freeman was brilliant.

The director of this trilogy is none other than, Peter Jackson, director of the Lord of the Ring. I’m so happy to see that he kept the same spirit of the movie while in the same time gave The Hobbit a soul of its own.

If you haven’t seen these movies yet, GO WATCH THEM!! You can’t miss watching the last installment of the trilogy at the cinema, like I missed the first two! I hate the fact that I was too busy when this part was release, but I still enjoyed it!

Movie Review: The Last Samurai

Are you a fan of Japanese culture? More specifically the Samurai?

If you are then, not watching this movie will definitely kick you out of the Japanese lover list!!  Also, if you are not that type then, your mind will just be taken away by it's imaginative and has an amazing plot and magical landscapes.

It is a movie that will appeal to many tastes since it represent a lot of genres: history, drama and action. It’s amazing, emotional and relaxing. It is a movie that gives people a huge amount of Life lessons.

The story was written by the hands of the famous, successful writer John Logan, who is known by his previous 14 years old movie Gladiator, which won 5 Oscars.

Tom Cruise played the role of the American military captain, Nathan Algren. The Japanese culture plus the actor of, War of the Worlds is something imaginative, believe me.

Nathan’s life was a mess; all he felt was guilt and regret from what he had done in his past; the killing of innocent people. Whenever he experiences flashbacks of scenes of war and the killing of children, adults and the elderly, he gets depressed of what happened and his only option to ignore his past mistakes was to get drunk.

Later on, the Japanese government wanted to hire a professional military leader to train and lead the Japanese soldiers, in order to assassinate the samurai katsumoto (Ken Watanabe), along with his companions, who you will fall in love with just like me! Just kidding.

Anyways, he soon will fall in the hands of the samurai's. At first, he wonders about these people. How are they living together and what kept them fighting together for the past thousands of years?

He then realizes and understands the environment, and understands the way of the samurai and how to find the true pleasure of life that we all seek but few live.

Yup, he really did made me understand and surely he will do the same for you.

Carrying on the story will only ruin the movie and its entertainment, but I can't tell you how I respect this movie, it is somehow realistic and at the same time imaginary!! Believe me, I have watched it over 5 times and I still do, because looking at their perspective of life, like Nathan does in the movie, his past changed. He became a whole different person with less anxiety, more aware of his surrounding and has something to protect and has something to live for. They gave him the concepts of life.

Also, watching how their empire lasted for thousands of years is in itself an honor. They have been protecting it from the past and until now. All of these traditions still being held, the remaining traditions of the samurai history.

One of the best things I love about the samurai is there sword "katana." it is mostly one of the strongest in history because of its sharpness and the holder himself. I truly would love to have one!!

Of course, not to mention the world’s Music Legend Hans Zimmer had his hands on the film. He is a man whom spell of soundtrack enchant millions of people. Especially in this movie, one of the special soundtracks in the movie is "Small Measure of Peace”, an absolute masterpiece of art. The name of it is something important in the movie, which Nathan Algren is seeking for.

Just to mention, it is the best most amazing imaginary soundtrack to me. It is relaxing, which feeds your soul by its taste. Every time I hear it, it reminds me of all that’s good in the nature, specially the cherry tree "Sakura." it is a beautiful kind of trees, with pink leaves filling it. The tree shall give you the peace you are looking for.

What I regret the most is not watching this film in the cinema. I wasn't that movie addict kind of person before, and to be honest I didn't like Japan. I actually thought of it as a normal country with some weird culture. But once I watched this specific movie, it really changed the way I thought of it, and the impact it left on me was weird at the same time awesome.

So don't waste your time. Order it from amazon, and I prefer it to be in Blue Ray so it can astonish it's full potential awesomeness to you.

نقد فيلم: موديلياني

أنتج فلم موديلياني سنة 2004 عن قصة حياة الفنان الرسام الإيطالي (اميديو موديلياني).

"عندما اتعرف على روحك ، سأرسم عينيك!"

نتعرف في فلم موديلياني (الإيطالي الجنسية) والذي عاش أوج عصر الفن الفرنسي في القرن التاسع عشر وتحديداً في باريس سنة 1919م. إذن الرقم مميز ولا ينسى كما هو حال فلمنا لليوم!

عاصر اميديو موديلياني وقتها بابلو بيكاسو وهو من أشهر وانجح الرسامين في ذلك الوقت وإلى يومنا هذا وكان منافساً شديداً له.

يتكلم الفلم عن طفولة اميديو ومعاناته وقت كانوا اليهود مضطهدين في إيطاليا ، فلم ينسى يوماً مشاهد إستيلاء الحكومة لأغراض بيتهم الذي نشأ فيه ، ويختم المخرج المشهد بولادة أم موديلياني وصريخها لحظة ولادة أخ أو أخت موديلياني.

كبر موديلياني في عاصمة الفن باريس وعرف بجنونه وعشقه للرسم وعلى طريقته الخاصة كان كثيراً ما يثير غيرة باقي الفنانين وخاصة بيكاسو.

يقع موديلياني في حب (جان) فرنسية مسيحية ، ومع رفض والدها وإصراره على نشأة إبن جان ومودلياني تربية مسيحية في الكنيسة ، يصر اميديو على الزواج من جان ، ويدخل مكرهاً على مسابقة المعرض المقام للرسامين في باريس ليتمكن من الزواج من جان وإبقاء طفلهما.

إلى هنا ينتهي سردي للقصة ويتبقى عليكم مشاهدة التفاصيل التي أرتأيت ألا أذكرها كما كانت في الفيلم وتكملة قصة الحزن والفرح ، الحب والكره اللذين من وجهة نظري نجح في تجسيدها عوامل كثييرة أدت بي حالما إنتهيت من مشاهدة الفيلم آن ذاك بأن اقرأ أكثر عن حياة موديلياني وإنتهاء بي بشراء الموسيقى التصويرية التي ما زلت ارجع لها من وقت لآخر.

كيف اعبر لكم عن مدى اعجابي بالموسيقى التصويرية للفيلم!؟

لم يعد من الصعب في يومنا هذا فبالضغط على زر واحد سوف تتعرفون على ما اتكلم عنه… (الموسيقى التصويرية)

لمحبي الدراما الكلاسيكية التي حاكاها لنا مخرج الفلم مايك دايفيز فكانت اختيارات المخرج للألوان والإضاءة متعددة وغير إعتيادية خاصة في سنة الإنتاج 2004. والتنوع مطلوب ولكن ما كنت اتخوف منه في الدقائق الأولى للفيلم هو أن يقع المخرج في فخ تسلسل الأحداث ولكن عفواً هذا مايك دايفيز. مالم يحظى بإعجابي هو مشاهد نزول الثلج الملونة ، سوف تعرفون ما اتكلم عنه حينما تشاهدون الفلم ، لجأ المخرج لإستخدام الجرافيكس في هذا المشهد وهنا خرجت عاطفياً من التفكير بالقصة وبدأت اركز على الجرافيكس وهذا ما لم بعجبني!

نرفع القبعة للممثل العظيم اندي غارسيا فقد جسد شخصية موديلياني ببراعة وإتقان وهو ما عرف عنه الإحترافية الشديدة في التمثيل ، فلم اتفاجأ بأندي في تأدية مثل هذا الدور بل تأكدت أنه اضاف للشخصية المكتوبة ، فالمناسبة هنا لقد كتب القصة للسينما مايك دايفيز نعم مخرج العمل ذاته! ومن الجمل التي لا انساها هي ما بدأت به مقالي اليوم "When I know your soul, I will paint your eyes".

أما بالنسبة لدور جان فقد أدته الممثلة إلسا زيلبلسترين التي كانت مقنعة في كل حركة تمثيلية "تعبيرية" قامت بها من خلال هذه القصة الرومانسية.

شارك الفلم في مهرجانات عدة منها مهرجان تورينتو السينمائي ومهرجان ميامي السينمائي ، كما ترشح لجائزة أفضل أزياء عن Golden Ssatellite Award

الجميل أن هذا الفلم حقق إرادات مذهلة خلال 14 اسبوع الأولى من العرض في الولايات المتحدة المريكية ولكن الإرادات الأعلى كانت في بلد الحب إيطاليا.

لعشاق تاريخ فنون الرسم والحالمين بالرومانسية كتابةً وصورةً انصح بإقتناء النسخة الأصلية لموديلياني.

لم أهو في حياتي شيئاً كحبي لسماع قصصك ولم أدرك قط أنك تروي لي نهايتي!
