Movie Review: Back to the Future

Like Jurassic Park, I haven’t watched Back to the Future growing up! Even though I heard about it and wanted to watch it, I never got the chance. So, I rented the HD version from iTunes like with Jurassic Park and its so much better all renovated in an HD version!

So the movie is super fun! It’s the story of the young Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) who always assisted the crazy scientist Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd). One day when he went to meet Dr. Emmett, he found him with a car that worked as a TIME MACHIN! And in the first try something goes wrong and Marty is stuck back in time in 1955 where he has to get his parents together or he won’t exist anymore!

The movie is so awesome!! I always enjoy time traveling! It’s very interesting to see the ripple effect you leave when you mess with one little detail of the past! And it’s so fun having a crazy scientist! We haven’t had one of those in a while! Not one that turned into a super hero.

The script is a bit funny and the special effects are of course dated (though it won an Oscar for it back in 1986), but that’s fine. You can still watch the movie and get excited and happy! It really got me into an 80s mood!

This movie is not only a classic, it’s one of the landmark of sci-fi movies! The car alone became an icon! And it also took me back in time where the story and the plot was the focus of the movie, not the special effects. These days everyone want to make bigger, louder movies while people look for the original stories. I think probably that's why people are going to the Hunger Games type of movies, because it's a bit new. I love how simple the story of this movie! I mean just a time traveling machine experience went wrong. It's still fun and entertaining. Like Jurassic Park, it's just a park with Dinosaurs in them, but it's stick in your mind and make you a fan without even realizing it. It's like the same thing with the 90s romance movies and what I said in While You Were Sleeping review.
The special effects these days are mind blowing! If those guys in the 70s and 80s got them, they'll go crazy, so it'll be fun to see something simple and original with a little bit of Special Effects fairy dust ;)

This is a MUST SEE CLASSIC! Highly recommended!

Movie Review: The Great Gatsby

Ah, Gatsby, we meet again!
Reader I’ve never been a fan of the book even though with among my writing friends that’s a shocker, but I never liked it. Even though it talks about the empty side of the 20s, the sadness behind all the glam, glitz and jazz! Still it didn’t do it for me. I did mention earlier that I won’t see the movie, but I was tempted only for one thing: The Fashion!

So I saw the newest movie and even though I think I’m probably the last person on the world to see it, the story goes like this:
Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) moves to New York in the summer of 1922 right next to the illusive and mysterious Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio). The billionaire who holds big fabulous parties and invite Nick to his world, because Nick is the cousin of the beautiful Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan) who Gatsby is deeply in love with and try to seduce away from her husband.

At the beginning I was really hooked. The 20s is my favorite era and the fashion is so breath taking! And this movie did it well because it one the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Costume Design. The dresses were timeless! And the Tiffany jewels made the biggest buzz when the movie came out. It also won Best Achievement in Production Design. The setting was magnificent! And the cinematography was a melody.

I loved the soundtrack especially because it was a mix of the crazy Charleston song with current beats. I think the highlight of the whole movie is the first party that Nick went too.

However the more I watched the more I got BORED!! I was checking the time left every 10 minutes. The movie got flat. It was way too long! 2 hours and 15 minutes was too much for that story. Even though the beginning made me think I should read the book and give it another chance, but by the end of the movie I remembered why I hated the book! It made me sad L

To talk about the cast, it was funny because the other day I was wondering what happened to Tobey Maguire. I didn’t see him in any new movies then bam he was right there in the middle of the movie. He was pretty good as well. Leonardo DiCaprio as well played his part well. His reaction when he saw Daisy again was so cute! I love Leo, he always was a brilliant actor. He needs an Oscar, soon!

So this is an ok film, but you need to be in a very good mood or probably sick in bed and have nothing better to do to tolerate the length of the movie.

Movie Review: The Iron Lady

The story of the only female Prime Minister in Great Britain, Margaret Thatcher and the rule that gave Meyrl Streep her third Oscar!
I love it!! It’s a story we all need to learn. In this movie we meet Margaret (Meyrl Streep) in her late years, and through her memories, we have a taste who she was; an interesting and intriguing taste that makes us want to know more about her intimate life and how she changed the history of Great Britain and how she became ‘The Iron Lady’.
The young generations in these days need a strong role model to inspire them and this is a great movie to be inspired by. One of the lines I loved in this movie was when Margaret said, “One’s life must matter.” A lot can be taken from this line. In these days even in small matters we need to stop being talkers (mostly, whiners) and start to become doers!! It wasn’t easy to be the only female Prime Minister in the country’s history, but Margaret Thatcher exceeded expectations, because she ‘Do’.
I’m totally curious now to know more about Margaret and after I write this review I will try and do some research on her.
To move away from the story line and to talk more about the making of the movie, I feel it will definitely become a Classic! Meyrl Streep was nothing, but perfect in her role and really looked the part. She was completely transformed. No wonder the movie received another Oscar for Best Makeup. It was flawless.
What I loved as well in this movie (and most biography based movies, I think) is how they show us the human sides of these characters. What I mean is, in this movie we have a sense of her personal relationships with her husband, children and those who were around her; something we can’t read in Wikipedia.
Also, they say the success of a movie is in the details and in ‘The Iron Lady’ we can see a close attention to details in the way the camera moved with Meyrl to capture every small movement Margaret did; from the close ups to her shoes as she walked through the crowds of men, the accessories on her hand as she tapped military charts to the tucking of her handbag under her chair in the Parliament.
The movie was just brilliant!!! And yes, it’s a Classic!!
