Movie Review: Nightcrawler

I was waiting on this movie since I saw one of the movie stills with Jake Gyllenhaal and after that I kept hearing good things about it, so when it was out here, I had to go. And let me tell you, Jake Gyllenhaal is one BRILLIANT actor!

The movie follows the story of Jake’s character, Louis Bloom as he tries and finds a job. In his search he stumbles on the Nightcrawlers (no, not vampires) they’re video shooting freelancers who shoot every accident from car crashes, fires to murders and sell the footage to the news channels. He buys a car and starts his business as a nightcrawler.

The thing is Lo is super super super SUPER creepy! He is one of those people you’re like, ooh I don’t want to ever meet him. And Jake portrayed him amazingly! I mean wow! I was so shocked by his acting. You can see the creepiness in his eyes, in his voice and even in his breathing! I think without that performance the movie won’t get as much attention as it has now. He deserves an award!

The story as a whole is good and has some suspense, but for me I think that the story is about the mental condition of Lo and how he sees life and how he act with people. What I like was that we don’t know Lo, as much as we hear him speak and see him move, there is a mystery of where he came from and why he became the way he is. It’s quite interesting now as I think about it.

No matter what I say I keep seeing Jake on the screen and as good as the filming or the cinematography of the movie, Jake’s performance shined through it all and created a high standard for the movie!

The movie is really good and it also showed us something new for people like me who never knew about Nightcrawling. I mean we don’t even have it in Qatar, I think. So, it’s interesting to see how they all compete together and what a news channel will do to get those footages. Another think that I liked was how Lo kept on saying how he learned everything online and he keeps on referencing articles and studies and how that is so true for so many people. Now a day you can google EVERYTHING, so it was a nice point in the movie.

Movie Review: Source Code

I can’t believe that I had this movie on my DVD shelf for years now and I just saw it!! It’s so so so so good!!! I couldn’t even look away throughout the hour and a half! Such an awesome thrilling suspense!!

Jake Gyllenhaal brilliant performance as Colter Stevens, a soldier in the military army who wakes up one day to find himself in another’s man memory of an exploding train. Colter will learn that he is inside a military device called Source Code that allowed him to relive that man’s memory in order to find out who bombed the train, so they can stop him from doing it again.

The movie is so entertaining and exciting! It’s one of those movies that make you on your edge wanting to know what will happen next. I was going back with Colter to the train trying to solve the mystery and guess who is the bomber. I mean it even had funny moments here and there. It also talks about time travel and how it has more effect than we already think we know. It plays with the mind a little and I liked that.

What I loved the most was how it’s not a commercially angled action movie. No, it’s more than that. It takes you deep into the confusion and disorientation of being in the source code and all the emotion of seeing those people on the train die over and over again.

Jake was beyond great in this movie! He really delivered his role and I can’t imagine anyone else doing it as well as he did! He seriously carried the movie on his shoulders. I loved him! I always enjoy his movies, but this one is one of his best.

If you liked Edge of Tomorrow or just looking for a fun action movie, this is for you! I recommend it completely! You won’t be bored with it at all!!

Movie Review: Prisoners

Staring Hugh Jackman, Prisoners is the story of Keller Dover (Jackman) when his daughter and her friend got kidnapped. Disappointed by the performance of Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal) he perssue the suspect and try to find his daughter.

This is such a suspense story!! OMG!! I was on the edge of my seat and screaming at the screen! Even though it’s the same kidnapping story, but so intense and thrilling! There are scenes that hook you up so much that you just stare in silence waiting for something to happen. Even the soundmix was thrilling. It was so calm that even some scenes didn’t have any sound but the click of a pen or the swish of a paper.

I’m a huge, huge Hugh Jackman fan!! I love how deep he gets into the character. He’s so passionate and emotional. There was a scene that just killed me as he screamed at Loki saying, ‘My daughter is there, waiting for me, waiting for me to save her’.

Also keep in mind that you need to go with your friends to see this. I really enjoyed the movie more because I had my sisters and friends with me and we kept speculating and trying to guess the plot! It was like we lived the mystery with them. It was nerve wrecking, but totally worth it!!
