Movie Review: In Time

Imagine if time was a currency and you had to work for the extra minutes of your life and if you were rich you could live as long as you want. This is what this movie is all about! The concept is so awesome and the movie don’t disappoint as well! It’s one of my favorite Justin Timberlake movies! And it’s one that I would watch again!

The movie as I said talk about what if “time” was a currency and it’s the story of Will Salas (Timberlake) who worked everyday to get paid enough time to live extra day or two when he met a rich man, Henry Hamilton (Matt Bomer) who gave him enough time for him to rise up the social ladder and enter the high society of the rich. There, he met Sylvia Weis (Amanda Seyfried) and things go crazy!

I loved this movie. It’s so thrilling and the idea of how death can be so close within minutes is just intense! Even though it’s an action movie, it makes you think! How lightly we take time and keep saying, “ooh how time flies”, but imagine what you would do if you truly believed that every minute counts, literary!

The setting of the movie is awesome and the costumes is so pretty! Social classes are divided by their economic statues, so when Will moved from section to section, you can see the difference, especially when he reaches the top class. I do like it when the movie has a lot of detail! So brownie points for them on that!

Let me talk about Justin performance. He was someone I never EVER thought could act! When I heard he’d start acting in movies, I was like, oh huh! But he is excellent! I mean he’s no Benedict Cumberbatch, but he’s really good! He really is someone who can take the heavy load of a movie on his shoulders! Even though the movie had a lot of great actors, but he truly owned it!

This is one movie not to be missed! It’s action packed, touches your heart and really makes you think of how time is very important!

I wanted to watch The Equalizer today, but sadly couldn’t, so if you watched it, please let us know if it’s good ;)

Movie Review: The Lunchbox

So, for today I wanted to review something different, other than my normal fantasy sci-fi stuff and in iTunes I found that the Lunchbox is the movie of the week! I heard really good things about it from my friends who watched it and it didn’t disappoint! Such a sweet deep and real movie! It’s enchanting, funny and the type of movies that never leave you.

The movie is set in India and it’s a story of a married woman who was trying to win back the love of her husband by making him the yummiest lunch he had, but by mistake the lunchbox was delivered to another man, who is old and bitter after losing his wife. When she discovered that the box went to the wrong person, she sends a letter to the guy in the lunchbox and he replies and with that starts an unexpected friendship between the two.

The movie just hypnotizes you into a beautiful world with amazing cinematography and colors. It shows us the smallest details we’re normally not exposed to from other cultures; like the lunchbox delivery service. It’s just men who go from home to home collect all the lunchboxes then take them to their destination. So we follow this small green box as it travels between the two.

It’s so simple, yet so deep. It shows the charming relationship growing between the two in a very charming and also funny way. It just makes you want to watch more and more of it. Not to mention as well the well structured and hooking script. It was written by the director as well, Ritesh Batra, who I had the pleasure to meet three years ago, though I doubt he’ll recall our meet hehehe.

The cast as well shined and gave great performances. I thought Nimrat Kaur is so beautiful and loved her portray of Ila (the woman who prepare the lunchbox) and of course not to forget to mention Irrfan Khan who played Saajan, the guy receiving the lunchbox.

The movie is such a beautiful melody that taps into our humanity in a sweet way. It won more than 20 international awards including Grand Golden Rail in Cannes Film Festival 2013.

The movie is what we call an “indie movie” or an Independent film, which means a movie that was produced mostly or all together outside the big and major movie studios system. Many great directors and even actors started with an indie movie and I’m planning to expand my horizon even further and review more movies from this type!
If you know any good indie movie, please feel free to comment and mention some to us! We’d love to hear from you!

Till again lovelies!

Movie Review: The Fall

A beautiful epic, which takes place in a “magic” land: that is The Fall! When I watched this movie the second time, I found it yet more amazing than the first! The story is of little Alexandra (Catinca Untaru) who is staying at a hospital in Los Angeles to recover from a fracture, and meets another patient: the heartbroken disabled Roy (Lee Pace). As their friendship starts, Roy tells Alexandria a story which he forms from the little people she knows.

In a deserted island, an Indian, an Italian bomb specialist, Charles Darwin with his monkey, an African slave and the Black Bandit (Roy), are exiled by the same enemy, Governor Odious, and the story begins with the revenge they seek. And a magical story it is, that revolves around Alexandria’s surroundings; where all the peoples she sees in the hospital become the heroes of her story.  Soon, as the tale grows bigger, Roy persuades Alexandria to fetch him as much morphine as she can to continue the story, where she finds it to be another adventure.

As simple the story might seem, as much great it really is. In the “more of an epic” story, great landscapes are shown. In each scene, we are travelling from one part of the world to another, around the seven wonders, and yet more. The captivating soundtrack (Krishna Levy) resembling the different parts of the world cannot but mesmerize and take you deep into the theme. Along with the exquisite cinematography (Colin Watkinson), the eyes and ears are literally indulged!

This is a powerful movie which would enchant you! It captures all the little moments of the real “current” and the told story. The customs are so charming, especially the black bandit that reminded me of Zorro and that bride dress with the crystal veil! Little Alexandria is lovely with her simple broken English and childish expressions and gestures. And Roy who is suffering from breakup and the bedsores is so dedicated in forming the story.

I would say this is one of the most amazing movies I have ever watched, I even had tears when Alexandria had! And a big smile that had not parted my face all the time!

The Fall is a drama fantasy directed by Tarsem Singh and won 3 awards. To read more and watch the trailer, click here.

This is such an enjoyable movie that would lift up your soul! Do enjoy it!

Movie Review: The Maze Runner

OMG!!! I was waiting to watch this movie!! It’s based on my favorite trilogy, The Maze Runner by James Dashner, which is awesome! And the movie is so so so GOOD!! It was everything I was hoping for!! You have to watch it! YOU HAVE TO!!!

The story is mind blowing and, for me, felt new and exciting. It’s the story of Thomas (Dylan O'Brien), who woke up one day in an elevator that opened up into a village full with teenage boys stuck in the middle of a huge HUGE maze! They all remember nothing but their name and want nothing, but to find the way out. They all try and solve the maze and things get complicated when Teresa (Kaya Scodelario), a girl, is found in the elevator with a note that says, “She’s the last one, EVER”.

I loved the trilogy so much! I couldn’t put it down and finished it in a week! The movie stayed true to the book, with only little details changed which is to be expected. All of our favorite characters are there and I was so so happy with the cast!! It was a spot on! The boys were great!

In the movie I was so happy when any intense scene ended, I could hear everyone around me release breaths they were holding. It’s really that intense! It’s so exciting! No dull moment.

The setting, OMG!! I loved the maze! It was just as I imagined it! And the Grievers (the monsters who come out in the maze at night) sounded and looked just like I imagined! The sound of them clicking on the solid ground is haunting!! It’s brilliant!!

The sound track is freaking awesome! Not the most brilliant, but it went with the feel of the movie! It really intensified the whole experience!

I LOVED it! Go watch it! Support the Gladers so they’ll have to film the second part of the story!!

If you watched it, feel free to comment and tell us what you thought ;).

Movie Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Cowabunga, you know it? you love it? then you are in for a treat. The new film was controversial to the original fans. But I LOVED it.
Directed by Jonathan Liebesman,  haven’t watched any of his previous films, William Fichtner
played Eric Sacks, and I loved his portrayal of the bad guy. Megan Fox Played April O'Neil, Will Arnett played Vernon Fenwickl. Loved Arnet’s appearance in this film, he’s one of my top comedians. I think that choosing Megan Fox to play April was a major fail, she was so plain and April’s character is more lively. I loved the turtles characters each one has a different unique style. I particularly loved Michelangelo’s jokes.
The voice actors did a tremendous job with their roles.

The story is as basic as it can get, the origin and how the turtles were created, and how the world got to know them. The movie was very interesting all through out the almost two hours. I didn’t feel like there was a boring moment, not a lot of filler scenes. Although others would argue that the elevator beatboxing scene was uncalled for, I enjoyed it and felt like that was a nice addition.

With Michael Bay as a producer you would expect amazing CGI and action! The characters were a bit ugly, I wish they spent more time making them prettier, but the overall look and feel of the film was great. The action sequences were amazing. I’m not a fan of action but TMNT made a great job with that! specially the one in the snow! Oh man that was an amazing scene.

Brian Tyler, who did the scoring to Iron Man, The Avengers, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, and Thor: The Dark World, composed the score for TMNT; and he did an amazing job with it. The tracks were epic, very hip and cool. I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t use the original TMNT theme song. it would’ve been amazing.

Overall the movie was a fun, action packed watch. If you weren’t too picky about how close the movie is to the original cartoon you would enjoy it.

Movie Review: Star Trek Into Darkness

I’ve never been a fan of space sci-fi films, but the new Star Trek series is just driving me insane! The good kind hahaha. I love it so much! This one was even better than the first one. Space adventures where never been this exciting!

The story of Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) continues after Kirk is appointed the Captain of the Enterprise. A new terror arises and threaten their organization, the one that protect many planets in the galaxy. That terror is names Khan and he is played by none other than Benedict Cumberbatch.

The cast in the movie was great, but for me Benedict was the center. He is beyond brilliant! One genius actor! I can never express how amazing he is! He is my new crush! Not just ‘cause he’s super cute, but the way he acts, I mean, wow! He really makes you believe the character he plays.

The movie as well is directed by J.J. Abrams who is another great talent! I’m a huge fan of his! He’s really good at making a big movie even bigger! Can’t wait to see what he’ll do to Star Wars: Episode VII. I saw that he’s producing Star Trek 3, but sadly won’t direct it.

So, because J.J. directed this movie, expect awesome special effects, big explosions and thrilling fight scenes. The movie is so hooking and just pulls you into an amazing world! And for someone who didn’t watch the old movie, I can understand the appeal of this series by the world these characters live in and the stories they lead.

For sure Highly Recommended! This is a must watch movie for all of us sci-fi lovers and to those who want to watch something fun!

Movie Review: Source Code

I can’t believe that I had this movie on my DVD shelf for years now and I just saw it!! It’s so so so so good!!! I couldn’t even look away throughout the hour and a half! Such an awesome thrilling suspense!!

Jake Gyllenhaal brilliant performance as Colter Stevens, a soldier in the military army who wakes up one day to find himself in another’s man memory of an exploding train. Colter will learn that he is inside a military device called Source Code that allowed him to relive that man’s memory in order to find out who bombed the train, so they can stop him from doing it again.

The movie is so entertaining and exciting! It’s one of those movies that make you on your edge wanting to know what will happen next. I was going back with Colter to the train trying to solve the mystery and guess who is the bomber. I mean it even had funny moments here and there. It also talks about time travel and how it has more effect than we already think we know. It plays with the mind a little and I liked that.

What I loved the most was how it’s not a commercially angled action movie. No, it’s more than that. It takes you deep into the confusion and disorientation of being in the source code and all the emotion of seeing those people on the train die over and over again.

Jake was beyond great in this movie! He really delivered his role and I can’t imagine anyone else doing it as well as he did! He seriously carried the movie on his shoulders. I loved him! I always enjoy his movies, but this one is one of his best.

If you liked Edge of Tomorrow or just looking for a fun action movie, this is for you! I recommend it completely! You won’t be bored with it at all!!
